Books on Yoga
If you look in a Bookshop or on Amazon you can
get a wide variety of books on Yoga on all the differing
types of yoga.
The Yoga Books range from detailed instruction manuals on all types of yoga to
understanding the philosophy and history of yoga.
The main purpose I use books is as a reference manual for
asanas
(postures), and if you
prefer to practice at home a good yoga manual is essential. The book I
personally use, and think is the best for Ashtanga Yoga is, "Ashtanga Yoga, The Practice Manual" by David Swenson.
David also has Yoga DVD that accompanies the book.
Remember that practicing asanas beyond your level can be harmful. Start with the easy poses first and
gradually add the intermediate and advanced asanas as your body adjusts.
Some asanas must be approached with great caution. Be very careful if you decide to try those at home without a
teacher or friend to assist you.
